Brian Tobin has been the head swimming and diving coach at Cortland for 21 years. He has led Cortland's men to a combined 158-96 (.622) dual-meet record, including 10 or more wins nine times, and the women to a combined 162-80-1 mark (.669) with 13 seasons of at least eight victories. He has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Coach of the Year five times on the men's side (2005-06, 2009-10, 2012-13 and 2014-15, along with SUNYAC Men's Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in 2021-22) and three on the women's side (2009-10 and 2011-12, along with a SUNYAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honor in 2019-20). Tobin's men's and women's teams have each finished in the top three at the SUNYAC Championships 15 times and have been the SUNYAC runner up in each of the past two seasons.
In addition to coaching swimming, Coach Tobin also teaches in the physical education department, runs a robust swim lesson program, and is in charge of a swim team for people with disabilities (Cortland Adapted Swim Team). A dedicated teacher, he adapts his communication strategy to meet the needs of different ages and learners.
Coach Ribot-Canales completed her second year as the diving coach at SUNY Cortland. In both years she has had a woman win both 1 meter and 3 meter at the conference championship meet who was also named the Diver of the Year for the SUNY Conference. She’s also been named the SUNYAC women’s diving coach of the year both years. Additionally in each year she has had four qualifiers to the NCAA regional diving championship meet, with a diver progressing on to the NCAA Championship meet (one who was All-American on both 1 meter and 3 meter). Veronica’s coaching resume includes Cornell University, and her own diving club team - Team Olympia, out of Miami, Florida where she had numerous regional and zone qualifiers, one age group national champion, and one Florida State Champion.
As an athlete, Veronica Ribot-Canales was a 4-time Olympian for Argentina. She was the only woman at the Barcelona Olympics to final in both 3-meter springboard & 10-meter platform. She is a 2-time US National 3-meter champion, whose accolades include US Olympic Festival Gold & bronze medals for 3-meter springboard, a Pan American Games Silver & Bronze medalist on 10-meter platform, and was a 4-time NCAA All-American on 1-meter & 3-meter at Boston University & Southern Methodist University. She competed for Argentina for 12 years, then switched nationality to represent Team USA for remaining 3 years of her international diving career.
